About the event

This professional learning provides an overview of the following High Leverage Practices in Special Education while providing participants with resources and tools for implementation. Training sessions include HLP tool review and practice time.

HLPs 6 & 14

September 26, 2024

9:00 AM - 3:00 PM

HLP 6: Use student assessment data, analyze instructional practices, and make necessary adjustments that improve student outcomes.

-Use a variety of assessment results to establish students’ present level of performance

  • Set ambitious, realistically attainable, long-term goals
  • Choose appropriate interventions to meet students’ long-term goals
  • Implement high-quality, evidence-based instruction to meet students’ needs
  • Monitor students’ progress toward their long-term goals to determine the effectiveness of instruction
  • Be patient, systematic, and persistent in looking for what will work for students

HLP 14: Use Cognitive and Metacognitive Strategies.

-Select cognitive and metacognitive instructional strategies based on students’ needs

  • Explicitly teach cognitive and metacognitive instructional strategies
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the strategies you taught/students used
  • Help your students with executive function struggles
